On 10 September St. Peter’s Street hosted the Saints Heritage Fayre as part of the Wolsey 550 celebrations and the HODS Heritage weekend.

Thank you to all those of you who came along and joined in the fun with Thomas Wolsey, Henry VIII (and all his wives!), musicians, performers and crafts people. Running along side in Cutler Street was a Food, Drink & Craft Market run by Suffolk Market Events.

The Saints Street Market was founded in 2010, by I Make Fun Stuff, a craft collective who were running small craft markets at the Ipswich Town Hall. IMFS teamed up with Cathy Frost of Loveone and brought the market to an outside location on St Peter’s Street. The market brought much needed footfall and attention to our high street as many businesses were recovering from the financial crisis. There have been two markets most years since and it has become very much part of the Ipswich Events calendar.

The market hosts at least 30 local craft  and artisan stalls, ranging from textiles, jewellery, printmakers , vintage items, upcycled products and candles. Many street food vendors have joined us over the past few years, and we have several great cake stalls. The ethos of the market is to keep it  local and for some has been a platform to develop and  launch a business. The markets have grown in popularity over the years and it is encouraging to see so many people attend the events. The shop local message has become even more significant as we come out of the pandemic. These events give the Saints businesses  an added boost to trade not just on the day but also as a result of the marketing.

In recent years we have also supported several charities. A firm favourite has been Baylham Farm who have brought to the street some of the stars of the farm – minature ponies and alpacas.
